WB Congress leader Adhir Ranjan claims Mamata Banerjee lied about ‘mic cut’ at NITI Aayog meeting

WB Congress leader Adhir Ranjan claims Mamata Banerjee lied about ‘mic cut’ at NITI Aayog meeting

On Saturday, July 27, West Bengal Congress president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury took a swipe at state chief minister and Trinamool Congress supremacist Mamata Banerjee. Responding to media queries on Mamata Banerjee’s allegations that her microphone was switched off during today’s NITI Aayog meeting, Adhir Ranjan said she was “lying”. He argued that she was getting jealous of Rahul Gandhi and her jealousy was going beyond limits. He further alleged that it was all a “Nautanki” on her part. The Congress leader added that she had shared the script of the Nautanki before going to the meeting.

It is worth noting that the PIB has already denied Mamata Banerjee’s allegations that her microphone was switched off during a NITI Aayog meeting in the national capital earlier in the day. It called her allegations “misleading” and noted that “only the clock indicated that her speaking time was up”.

Meanwhile, speaking to ANI about Mamata Banerjee’s allegations, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said, “The things Mamata Banerjee is saying about the NITI Aayog meeting, I feel she is lying… it is very surprising that the CM of a state is not allowed to speak. Mamata Banerjee knew what was going to happen there… she had the script.”

He added that according to him, Rahul Gandhi demonstrated (Prakat ho gaye) as the leader of the opposition across the country and is applauded, this has made Mamata Banerjee jealous. He said that she is getting jealous of Rahul Gandhi. He added, “Mamata Banerjee ki Street (jealous of Rahul Gandhi) shayad thodi jaroorat se jyada ho gayi hai.”

‘Undeclared Emergency’: Adhir Ranjan writes letter to Indian President, asking him to intervene to restore law and order in West Bengal

Besides calling her a liar and jealous, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury wrote a letter to President of India Droupadi Murmu, requesting him to intervene and restore the law and order situation in West Bengal. In his letter, he expressed grave concerns over the law and order situation in the state and the TMC’s policy of intimidation and terror towards opposition parties in the state. He referred to the Sandeshkhali incident and accused the TMC of “engineering” communal riots in Murshidabad district ahead of the Lok Sabha elections to polarise voters.

He pointed out that several gruesome killings of opposition party workers indicate that there is absolutely no “place” for the opposition in the state. He added that an “undeclared emergency” prevails in the state and therefore pleaded with the President to intervene to ensure that the people of West Bengal get justice.

In the letter, the West Bengal Congress president said, “It is not only disturbing but also deeply distressing to see the lawless situation prevailing in the state of West Bengal due to the ruthless approach of the ruling party towards the workers, sympathisers and supporters of the parties opposed to the ruling system in the state.”

He added that many innocent people lost their lives, or were imprisoned or detained during the election phase due to violent and terrorist attacks on workers, sympathisers and supporters of parties opposed to the TMC.

He further said that there have been several instances where people who were not affiliated with the ruling party or were sympathetic to the opposition parties in the state have lost their jobs due to the high-handed tactics of the ruling regime in the state – TMC.

The letter added: “It would be useless for me to highlight before you the instances of mass violence and exploitation like the ‘Sandeshkali incident’ and the ‘organised’ communal riots that took place in Murshidabad district ahead of the Lok Sabha elections in order to polarise the voters.”

In the letter, the Congress leader said that recently on Thursday (July 25), TMC workers tied up a Congress activist and beat the victim to death in Jalpaiguri.

He stressed that these incidents indicate that there is absolutely no “space” for the opposition in the state.

The letter stated: “Indeed, at present, it is ‘definitely’ an undeclared emergency situation prevailing in the state, where the exercise of fundamental rights by the people remains a fairy tale.”
