The Fall Guy is coming to Peacock with 20 minutes of additional footage

An extended version of The Fall Guy will premiere on Peacock next month, featuring 20 minutes of additional footage. The film has grossed just over $170 million on a budget of $125 million to $150 million.

The guy who falls at the right time is one of the strangest releases of 2024. Not because of what happened on screen—the film itself was pretty much by the book—but because of how Universal decided to release the film and the impact it had on the box office. The film premiered at the South by Southwest Film Festival in March, receiving unanimous praise from critics and audiences who watched the film. It also proved that Universal had a lot of confidence in premiering the film nearly two months before its wide release date. From there, the film screened in front of more critics and CinemaCon attendees in April. However, there wasn’t enough momentum between the initial premiere and the release date, so despite all that critical acclaim and a ton of marketing, the film only made just over $170 million at the global box office on a $125-150 million budget before it went live. Universal has been trying to recoup costs through PVOD ever since, and now the film is headed to Peacock. According to Variety, The guy who falls at the right time will be streaming on Peacock starting August 30, and it’s an “extended version” with 20 minutes of new footage that features “more action, stunts, romance and more sexy bacon!”

The guy who falls at the right time is one of the few films that came out this year with high hopes of launching a franchise and completely missed the mark. There have been some serious missteps at the box office this year, and starting the summer with this one is part of the reason why every time another film underperforms this summer, everyone acts like the sky is falling. When you start off bad, everyone assumes things aren’t going to get better, even if the numbers say they are.
