Major incident in Southport: several people injured in stabbing on residential street, man arrested and knife seized

SEVERAL people were injured in a “major incident” on a residential street today as a man was arrested.

Police were called to a property on Hart Street in Southport following reports of a stabbing at around 11.50am.

Several casualties were reported following the stabbing and one man was arrested by armed police.

A statement from Merseyside Police said: “We can confirm that emergency services are in Southport following a major incident this morning, Monday 29th July.

“At around 11.50am we were called to a property on Hart Street to reports of a stabbing.

“There are a number of casualties reported and further details will be confirmed as soon as possible.

“Armed police arrested a man and seized a knife. He was taken to the police station.

“Please avoid the area while we deal with this incident. There is no wider threat to the public.”
