Singaporean father poses as Malaysian royal bodyguard to attend K-pop concert with daughter

A man has been fined S$5,000 (US$3,700) for posing as a Malaysian princess’s bodyguard to accompany her daughter to a K-pop concert in Singapore.

The incident occurred during ENHYPEN’s “Fate” world tour, which took place in Singapore on January 20 and 21, with tickets priced from S$148 (US$110) to S$348 (US$260).

The 49-year-old, whose name has not been released, has a 17-year-old daughter who wanted to see her idols perform on both dates.

He could only afford to buy one ticket for his daughter, while his friend bought hers.

But on the day of the first concert, the man came up with a plan to accompany his daughter.

He contacted the organisers, claiming he was the bodyguard of a princess from Selangor, Malaysia, who would be attending both events.

He explained that he had not bought a ticket but had requested entry to ensure the princess’s safety during the concerts.

The organizers believed his story, even gave him early access and designated staff to greet him and provide him with special bracelets.

After informing his daughter of his plan, they arrived early at the scene with his friend.

To make his story more credible, he disguised himself as a bodyguard and confidently led his daughter and her friend inside without waiting in line.

During the concert, he stood at the entrance and watched his daughter from afar, and then they went home as if nothing extraordinary had happened.

However, suspicions about their identity later arose.

A project manager doubted her identity and alerted security and stadium management, who later confirmed that the girl’s identity was false.

The police were informed and, on January 21, when the man and his daughter returned to repeat their scam on the second day, they were handed over to the authorities.

In court, the man pleaded guilty, citing concerns for his daughter’s safety at crowded events as his reason for attending.

He expressed regret and highlighted the financial pressures of paying his university tuition fees, calling for leniency as he is the sole breadwinner.

The judge dismissed his arguments and said: “If he was truly concerned about his daughter’s safety, he could have bought another ticket to accompany her instead of concocting this deceitful plan and tarnishing the reputation of the Selangor royal family.”

The man was eventually fined $3,700 for fraud and allowed to repay the money in installments.
