Ending Bad Governance: Katsina Residents Turn to Spirituality in Face of Hardship, Insecurity

Some residents of Katsina State came out in droves on Tuesday to observe a special prayer session to seek Allah’s intervention against the persistent economic challenges and insecurity in the state.

The prayer session, which was held at the premises of the Katsina Arabic Teacher Training College, was widely attended amid tight security.

Residents prayed to Almighty Allah to end the persistent economic hardship, hunger and insecurity among other challenges they face.

The residents performed the “Al-Qunut prayer”, a type of supplication offered during prayer at a specific point while standing and which was recommended especially when a calamity befalls a community.

A similar prayer session was conducted at Filin Samji, Filin Yammawa and Filin Canada football grounds, all located in Katsina metropolis.

According to some participants, they resorted to these prayers as a last resort to cope with hunger, insecurity and other challenges.

The decision appears to have been taken in response to ongoing clashes between security agents and young Nigerians protesting the high cost of living.

Organizers of the EndBadGovernance protests had earlier planned Saturday for such prayers to be held at various mosques and churches across the country to ask for divine intervention.
