Fresh Corn – Pieces and Chunks

The good folks at Canning Simple Recipes Food Gardening Preserving and Crafting write: “Cooler Corn” is a popular method for cooking corn on the cob, especially when you need to prepare a large batch for a gathering. The process involves using a clean, empty cooler (the kind you typically use to keep drinks cold) and boiling water.

“Over the weekend I was amazed at the simple genius of this method for perfectly cooking tons of corn on the cob.

A Coleman cooler is pulled out of the garage, cleaned, and then filled with hulled cobs. Then, pour two pots full of boiling water over the corn and close the lid.

Then nothing. 30 minutes later I opened it and the corn was perfectly cooked. I was blown away. And I was told the corn would stay perfectly cooked for a few hours.

It turns out that Cooler Corn is pretty well known among outdoor enthusiasts. But for those of us who avoid tents whenever possible, it’s perfect for big cookouts and a lot less messy than grilling. In fact, I might even buy another cooler just to be prepared for next summer. Now that I know about it.
