Suspect wanted for alleged hate-motivated assault at Beaches restaurant

Toronto police are trying to identify a suspect wanted in connection with an alleged hate-motivated assault at a Beaches restaurant.

The incident happened at a restaurant near Queen Street East and Maclean Avenue shortly before 7 p.m. on August 8.

Police said the suspect got into a verbal altercation with the victim and directed racial slurs at her. Police said the suspect then assaulted the victim with “an object” before fleeing the area.

The suspect is described as a man in his 60s, 5’7″ tall and of slim build. He was wearing a blue sweater, khaki shorts, a baseball cap and white running shoes. He was carrying a black bucket and a black shopping cart.

Police also released an image of the suspect and said they were treating the incident as a suspected hate crime.

Investigators are asking anyone with information to contact police or call Crime Stoppers anonymously.
