Save over 40% on Sony’s best wireless noise-canceling headphones

Starting today, Amazon has slashed the price of the Sony WH-1000XM4 noise-canceling headphones by 43%. They normally retail for $348, but right now you can pick one up for just $198. That’s the best price we’ve seen during Amazon Prime Day. There’s a newer model — the WH-1000XM5 — but it’s currently “on sale” for $328 and certainly not worth the $130 price premium for an incremental upgrade. Sony’s headphones are considered by many to be the best noise-canceling headphones under $400, let alone $200, beating out stiff competition like the Bose QuietComfort and Beats Studio Pro.

The Sony WH-1000XM4 was released in 2020 and remains one of the best noise-cancelling headphones on the market. The large 40mm drivers with LCP diaphragms deliver excellent sound quality with low distortion, even at high volumes. The earcups are made from a soft leatherette material that provides a good seal around your ear for effective passive isolation. This in turn improves the audio quality and also works in tandem with Sony’s QN1 HD processor to deliver some of the best active noise cancellation you can get from a closed-back headset. Ergonomics have also been considered. The plush ear cushions and padded headband mean you can wear these headphones comfortably for hours, and the earcups can be rotated and folded compactly for easy travel (something the newer WH1000XM5 can no longer do). Other niceties include USB Type-C charging, up to 30 hours of battery life on a single charge, multipoint support for simultaneous Bluetooth pairing to two separate devices, clear hands-free calling, and more.

The Sony WH-1000XM4 is well worth the money, especially at this price. While we haven’t reviewed these headphones specifically, we have reviewed their successor, the XM5. In our Sony WH1000XM5 review, Kevin Lee calls them “without a doubt the most powerful and impressive noise-canceling headphones.
