Airport worker, 22, crushed to death by lift as horrified passengers heard his screams but could not stop the elevator

An AIRPORT worker was crushed to death by an elevator. Horrified passengers heard screams but were unable to help.

Mechanic Wisatrat Tangsoh, 22, was working at the bottom of an elevator shaft at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi International Airport when the two-tonne glass cabin crashed.

The shocked travelers heard screams of pain as they passed, but they were helpless in the face of the horror.

Asian Elevator Co staff rushed to the scene, finding Wisatrat’s crushed body in a pool of blood at the base of the shaft.

It is believed he went down to retrieve a wrench.

But Wisatrat faced his horrible fate when the elevator slowly began to descend.

He was stuck at the bottom and unable to stop the heavy cabin as it collapsed.

Doctors pronounced him dead at the scene after suffering a serious head injury.

The scene of the attack was cordoned off while emergency services recovered his body and sent it for an autopsy.

A statement from Suvarnabhumi International Airport said he failed to follow safety procedures properly, leading to the fatal crash.

He added: “Airports of Thailand (AOT) has coordinated with doctors and police to inspect the scene with forensic experts.

“The AOT has temporarily blocked the area.

“We would like to confirm that the accident was not caused by a malfunction of the area’s elevator.

“The AOT would like to express its condolences to the family of the deceased.

“We will cooperate fully with the investigation to find the cause of the accident.”

This is not the first horror story to emerge in Bangkok in recent weeks.

In July, six people were found dead in a hotel room at the Grand Hyatt, located in the middle of a popular tourist area.

Thai police later discovered traces of cyanide, a deadly poison, in cups of tea.

There was no sign of a struggle, with scraps of food remaining on the table.

Police were investigating whether a financial dispute led to the mass poisoning with members of the group known to have invested money together.

Local media reported that a woman poisoned herself and the other five members of the group.
