Sing a different melody

Vice President Harris is reversing several far-left policies as she distances herself from President Biden and tries to make a name for herself as the Democratic presidential candidate.

In his first political speech in North Carolina Later this week, and then next week at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Harris plans to introduce Americans to who she is and how she will govern, essentially for the first time since Biden dropped out of the race and endorsed her presidential campaign.

In recent weeks, Harris has shifted positions on at least five major policies: mandatory buybacks of assault rifles, fracking, immigration, health care and a federal jobs guarantee.

During her 2019 presidential campaign, she supported a mandatory buyback program for assault rifles.

“We need to have a gun buyback program, and I support a mandatory gun buyback program,” Harris said in October 2019, according to NBC News. “It has to be smart, it has to be done the right way. But there are at least 5 million (assault weapons), some estimate there are as many as 10 million, and we’re going to have to have smart public policy to get them out of circulation, but in the right way.”

In 2024, a Harris spokesperson said she would not push for a mandatory buyback program for assault rifles. …Learn more
