Mangalore: MP Ivan D’Souza’s residence in Valencia, Mangaluru, was targeted by a group of stone-pelting miscreants on the night of August 21. No one was injured in the incident.

Ivan D’Souza told Deccan Chronicle that a complaint had already been lodged at the relevant police station. He was in Bengaluru when the incident took place.

“Condemning the incident, I will hold a protest march (Padayatra) from my residence to the BJP office on August 23, with around 3,000 people expected,” Ivan said.

He blamed the incident on the BJP.

Police said that initial police reports indicate that two individuals on a motorcycle carried out the attack and fled the scene immediately afterwards. CCTV footage from the area is being analysed to identify the suspects, and senior police officials, including the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), have reached the scene to assess the situation.

In response to the attack, security around the MLC residence was stepped up, with a team of the City Armed Reserve (CAR) deployed to provide round-the-clock protection to Ivan D’Souza and his family. One non-recognisable (NC) case was registered at the South Police Station.

City Police Commissioner Anupam Agarwal confirmed that a special investigation team, led by ACP Central and PI South, has been formed to expedite the probe.

The team has been tasked with gathering all available evidence, including CCTV footage from nearby shops and establishments, to ensure a speedy resolution of the case.
