DNC Chicago: FBI Reportedly Investigating Maggots Found in Food Served at Delegates' Breakfast

A breakfast for delegates attending the Democratic National Convention in Chicago was interrupted Wednesday morning after maggots were allegedly intentionally slipped into their food, WGN first reported.

The DNC 2024 Joint Information Center also confirmed the incident to Fox News Digital and acknowledged the food contamination.

Authorities said several unknown female offenders allegedly entered a building and placed unknown objects on tables containing food.

The perpetrators then allegedly left the area and one victim was treated and released at the scene, authorities said.

Authorities said the FBI-Chicago, working with the Chicago Police Department, was also assisting in the investigation.

Multiple law enforcement sources told WGN that it appears the maggots were brought into the hotel by activists looking to send a message.

“All Americans have the right to peaceful protest, but attacks as heinous as this have no place in our democracy,” said Sam Barloga, a spokesman for the Indiana Democratic Party. “We thank the security team for their swift response.”

Neither the DNC Information Center nor the Fairmont have confirmed the presence of maggots, but they can confirm that the incident has resulted in a food safety issue for DNC breakfast guests.

“We can confirm that a group of individuals disrupted a DNC breakfast at our hotel this morning. We are grateful for the quick response from law enforcement,” the Chicago Fairmont said in a statement to Fox News Digital.

The hotel added that the safety and well-being of its guests and staff are its top priorities.

“Our team immediately responded to clean and sanitize the area, ensuring the event could continue without further incident. We maintain the highest standards of food safety and cleanliness throughout our property and have strict protocols in place to manage any disruptions,” Chicago Fairmont continued.

It was not immediately clear whether the contamination was discovered before delegates consumed the food.

Indiana delegate Tracy Boyd, who represents the Indianapolis area at the convention, told WGN that her group was informed that breakfast service would be briefly delayed due to the incident.

“They protected us, of course, and were able to turn the situation around in a matter of minutes. I really want to thank the staff and management of the hotel,” Boyd said.
