Another one of Garth Ennis‘comics, Crossis going to be adapted into a movie by Six Studios. Ennis is also the screenwriter for Preacher and The Boys, and if the film is done right, Crossed could make a great movie.

Cross takes place in “a world gripped by a pandemic, in which those who catch a disease are marked with a cross-shaped rash on their faces. Those affected act on their worst impulses—imagine a zombie apocalypse, but instead of zombies, they’re humans who retain their intellect but are homicidal maniacs.”

Producer Carl Choi said the script told an intimate and human story. “It was the most faithful adaptation possible.”

The film is described as Contagion encounter The Walking Deadwith notes of Alex Garland Civil waras it is a road movie across a ravaged United States.

Six Studios is currently looking for a director to helm the project, which is expected to have a budget of $2 million to $3 million. But that budget could increase for the right talent. The project is scheduled to begin production in the fall.

The original 10 issues that inspired the film were published between 2008 and 2010. The franchise has spawned over 200 issues from various writers and artists, including talents such as Alan Moore.

It will be a very low budget production, but I’m curious to see what kind of creative team they will assemble for it and what they will manage to do with the adaptation of the story.
