Who sent Azam Swati to meet Imran Khan early in the morning? Aleema Khan asks

Aleema Khan, sister of PTI founder Imran Khan, accused the current party leadership of having no intention of releasing him from jail.

His comments come after the PTI’s rally scheduled for today in Tarnol, Islamabad was postponed.

Aleema Khan asked why Azam Swati, a PTI leader, visited Imran Khan early in the morning and asked him to convey the message regarding the postponement of the rally.

She expressed scepticism about the feasibility of such a meeting at 7.30am at Adiala jail and claimed that the decision to call off the rally was taken under pressure from the establishment.

She criticised the current PTI leadership for not having the courage to confront the party’s supporters and for taking decisions without consulting the founder.

Aleema Khan claimed that the leaders had no real intention of securing Imran Khan’s release and were instead using his name to take independent decisions.

Earlier in the day, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) announced the postponement of its rally scheduled at Tarnol Chowk in Islamabad till September 8, following the instructions of the party’s founder Imran Khan.

The decision was finalised after senior PTI leaders Omar Ayub Khan, Azam Swati and Barrister Gohar met Imran Khan at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi.

After the meeting, Azam Swati and Barrister Gohar spoke outside the prison, confirming the delay of the rally and announcing the new date.

PTI founding leader Imran Khan later clarified that those seeking freedom should not view the decision to delay the planned rally as a sign of weakness.

He stressed that his party believes in peaceful political and legal struggles and took this decision to avoid unrest.
