Shell Island Campers Leave Early Due to Bad Weather

Many holidaymakers at one of the UK’s largest campsites have left early due to bad weather.

Shell Island in Llanbedr, Gwynedd, has been exposed to high winds causing damage even before storm Lilian hit.

The site said 70% of visitors had packed up and left, which Richard Workman, one of its directors, said had dashed hopes of a bumper bank holiday weekend.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for strong winds affecting parts of north Wales.

Despite the warning only affecting North Wales, A New Order concert in Cardiff due to take place on Thursday night has been cancelled for health and safety reasons.

Bad weather has caused traffic disruption with the M48 Severn Bridge closed between J2 A466 Wye Valley Link Road (Chepstow) and J1 A403 (Aust) due to high winds.

The A55 Britannia Bridge between J9 A487 (Treborth) and J8 A5 (Llanfair PG) has been closed to high-sided vehicles, motorcycles, bicycles and caravans.

There are 14 flood warnings along the coast.
