SYRIZA leadership in question as internal divisions deepen

Tensions have risen within Syriza’s Political Secretariat as one of its prominent members, Pavlos Polakis, openly challenged the leadership of Stefanos Kasselakis.

Mr Polakis expressed doubts about Mr Kasselakis’ ability to lead the party in the current political climate and said he was willing to contribute to possible changes.

The meeting took on a new dimension when eight members, including prominent figures such as Olga Gerovasili and Alekos Flambouraris, staged a strike in protest.

The group, known as the “Group of 87,” issued a statement criticizing the lack of transparency in the party’s leadership and management of resources.

Mr Kasselakis responded defiantly, saying any leadership challenge should take place within the Central Committee and vowing not to abandon the party.

While he promised to address Polakis’ concerns about the Linou investigation, he took a tougher stance against the Group of 87, accusing them of undermining the party and calling into question its commitment to Syriza.

The incident reveals deep divisions within Syriza as the party struggles with its future direction and leadership.
