John Williams’ musical documentary confirms release date on Disney+

Music by John Williamsa documentary produced by Steven Spielberg that explores the life and career of Jaws And Star Wars The film, directed by composer John Williams, is set to debut on Disney+ in November, after a limited theatrical release. The film will serve as the opening night film for AFI Fest 2024, which will take place at the TCL Chinese Theatre from October 23-27. The following week, on November 1, the film will arrive on Disney+. One of the film’s producers is Ron Howard, the head of Imagine Entertainment who also served as director of the recent Disney+ documentary Jim Henson: The Man of Ideas.

Throughout his career, Williams was nominated for 52 Academy Awards and won five. Fiddler on the Roof, Jaws, Star Wars, ANDAnd Schindler’s ListHe is also known for creating the music for Superman, Indiana Jones, Jurassic Parkand many others. He had initially indicated that he intended to retire after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalkerbut later changed his mind.

“John Williams is an American icon with a true and timeless global impact,” said AFI President and CEO Bob Gazzale (according to Deadline, which first reported the news). “You could say we are ‘over the moon’ to host the film’s world premiere, but that feeling would be scarcely stronger without the music of AND the alien” . “

“Growing up in France, I discovered the soundtracks that I bought on vinyl before most American films that were released months after their American release,” adds Laurent Bouzereau, the film’s director. “John Williams is the composer I immediately identified with; his scores made me fall in love with music and made me understand at a very young age the power that music had on cinematic storytelling. It was an important story to tell, not only because it is about one of the greatest composers of all time, but also because of the message it conveys about the survival of orchestral music and musicians.”
