Actors protest RG Kar College incident

Kolkata (West Bengal) (India), August 26 (ANI): People associated with the television industry on Sunday took out a candle light march against the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital rape and murder incident.

The brutal rape and murder of a medical intern on the hospital premises has sparked outrage across the country. The incident has shaken the entire nation and since then, several protests have been held demanding justice for the victim.

Earlier, the Indian Secular Front (ISF) staged a protest in Bhangar area of ​​South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal on Sunday, demanding justice in the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital rape and murder case.

The protesters called for punishment of the culprits and demanded the resignation of the West Bengal Health Minister.

ISF leader and Bhangar MLA Pirzada Mohammad Naushad Siddiqui said, “We want the culprit to be punished as soon as possible… There is corruption in the health department and the health system has collapsed… We demand that the health minister resign… If the state government cooperates with the CBI, justice will prevail soon. So we want the Bengal government to cooperate with the CBI… The police are not doing their duty… We are protesting in all constituencies and we only want his family to get justice… The whole of Bengal wants justice in the RG Kar case.” Earlier, CBI officials had conducted a polygraph test on the arrested accused Sanjay Roy in connection with the rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata.

In a related development, Parimal Dey, a teacher from Alipurduar in West Bengal who was honoured with the Banga Ratna award by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in 2019, has decided to return the award in protest against the state government’s handling of the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital rape and murder incident.

The intern doctor was found dead in the seminar room of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on August 9. (ANI)
