Funseekers club members meet for picnic in Follansbee Park

FOLLANSBEE — Members of the Funseeker’s club gathered at Follansbee Community Park Aug. 11 for their annual picnic celebration. The 35 members and guests Lorena Mercer and Hunter Sistilli, met at the shelterhouse, where the club had provided meat and table service for the covered dish event.

Activities held throughout the day included several games of bingo and an “In Your Seat” scavenger hunt, created by President Cathy DiBenedetto.

Winners of the bingo games were, Carl Truax, Mary Alice Mitchell and Joe DiBenedetto.

Door prizes were provided by Iris Craig. Those winning a door prize were, Larry Bauer, Gene Dalfonso, Kathy Cole, Mitchell, Barbara Jean Losey, Deann Starr, Joyce Dobb, Phyllis Riapos, Lee Lewis and Frank Cole. The 50/50 drawing was won by Cole.

One of the most popular picnic activities was what members referred to as hobby horse races. DiBenedetto noted the game will be held at a future meeting.

An announcement was made regarding upcoming trips and excursions planned for the remainder of the year. Those events include: The Beach Boys, Capitol Theater, dinner at Mehlman’s, Sept. 21; Rock and Roll DooWop, Capitol Theater, dinner at Mehlman’s, Oct. 5; Nashville Opryland Country Christmas trip, includes three nights at the Opryland Hotel, three breakfasts, a lunch cruise with Holiday Entertainment, two dinners, a Country Christmas Dinner Show, Nashville Nightlife Dinner Theater, Country Music Hall of Fame, Brightest Star Foundation Show and more , Dec. 1-4; Christmas Motown, Capitol Theater, Dec. 14; and the Nutcracker, Lincoln Park, Dec. 15.

Funseekers’ officials noted a new trip has been added for Sept. 24-26, 2025. The group plans to travel to Seneca Resorts and Casino in Niagra Falls.

The public is invited to participate in any of the trips.

Game Night will be the focus of the group’s next meeting, scheduled to be held at 5 pm Sept. 4 at the Breakfast Club in Steubenville. Door prizes for the month of September will be provided by Larry and Mary Beth Bauer.
