Alameda County Firefighter Goes On Racist Rant Against Community Member In TikTok Video

(KRON) — An Alameda County Fire Department (ACFD) firefighter was caught on camera on a racist rant against a San Joaquin County community member. The incident was captured on video and posted to TikTok on Friday.

The ACFD confirmed the incident occurred and will conduct an internal investigation, the department said in a statement released Sunday evening.

“We found that certain language was used during this interaction that does not align with the values and standards we uphold as an organization,” ACFD said.

According to the four-minute video, the firefighter and community member were involved in a car accident on a county highway just outside the San Francisco Bay Area. The TikTok user who posted the video said the incident happened in or around Lodi.

The ACFD firefighter appeared upset by the collision and became angry at the community member, sparking the racist rant that followed.

“The cops are coming, for sure,” the unidentified firefighter said. “You stupid Mexican or whatever you call yourself, Filipino… What are you?”

The community member responded to the firefighter: “Don’t be racist, bro. Don’t be racist.”

“It doesn’t matter if I’m racist or not, I’m a firefighter,” the ACFD employee said around the 1 minute and 20 second mark of the video. “You’re going to wait for your (expletive) $10 an hour job (expletive).”

The firefighter then referred to the victim as someone who “takes care of the lawn.” At around 2:25 of the video, the firefighter also referred to the community member as a “Filipino.”

As of Sunday evening, the video had been viewed more than 69,000 times on TikTok. The circumstances of the accident are currently unknown.

Our department is committed to gathering all facts and we are approaching this situation in a manner that reflects our dedication to integrity, professionalism and community trust. Our goal is to ensure that we continue to serve our community with the highest level of respect, both on and off duty.

The video was compiled by a YouTube user and appears to show the firefighter wearing an ACFD t-shirt. It is unclear whether the firefighter was on duty at the time of the exchange.

KRON4 reached out to CHP Stockton and left a voicemail. We are awaiting a response and gathering more information about the traffic accident that led to the verbal exchange.
