Silent Hill 2 Remake Developers Explain Why They Skipped the First Game

Fans of Konami’s legendary horror series have been asking themselves one question for months: why Silent Hill 2 get a remake before the original game?

In a new Rock Paper Shotgun interview with Bloober Creative Director Mateusz Lenart and Senior Producer Maciej Głomb, that question is finally addressed, and it has a lot to do with the game’s story.

“I think Silent Hill 2 “It’s just much closer to our DNA,” Lenart said. “It’s much more emotional, a much more personal story than, say, the first or third game. And at Bloober, we’ve always been fans of telling personal stories about people’s experiences, people’s feelings and how they go through them. Not so much about the occult and otherworldly things, right? So I think that was the main reason.”

The second game in the series moves away from the supernatural roots of the original title, fitting more seamlessly into Bloober’s realm.

“It was the best game for us as Bloober Team, in terms of our DNA and the games we’ve made and have made before,” Glomb agreed.

“We were very happy to make this version of the game, simply because it matched our feelings. Even in our previous games, we were so inspired by Silent Hill 2 in more specific aspects – in Layers of Fearwhich is a completely different game, but having these different endings, it was inspired by Silent Hill 2. Having these little things during the game where we don’t tell you that it’s going to lead to a different ending.
