ESPN pundit suggests Liverpool should now consider selling £64m player

Liverpool have made a perfect start to the new Premier League season with two wins from two games and zero goals conceded.

The Reds have managed to keep pace with Manchester City and Arsenal as Arne Slot looks to challenge the Premier League title contenders for the English championship, a feat that would be Liverpool’s most impressive this season.

With just days to go until the end of the transfer window, Liverpool fans have their attention firmly on the market, however, with the Reds currently chasing Federico Chiesa in a race that could continue until the deadline, with Barcelona also said to be interested.

But Liverpool have just been informed that one of their star players is set to be transferred.

Liverpool ordered to sell Darwin Nunez after two opening games

Speaking on ESPN FC, pundit Steve Nicol has suggested that Liverpool should look to move closer to Darwin Nunez, with the forward not appearing to be a good fit for Slot’s style of play, having failed to start the first two Premier League games of the season.

Signed for £64million in 2022, Nunez’s form has been a source of frustration for some Liverpool fans, with the forward yet to truly prove he is the man to lead the Reds’ attack, and Nicol now believes the time has come for the Uruguay international to leave Anfield.

Nicol said: “I think if the way Liverpool played and the way the front line and the midfielders interacted, the way they were striking the ball and the little one-twos, all the movements around, who I thought was Nunez doesn’t fit that.

“And if that’s what Arne Slot is looking for on a regular basis, then Nunez is not in that situation. And if you have a player that you can get a good salary for but he doesn’t fit what you’re trying to do, then you have to think about letting him go.”

Nunez should benefit from this season to save his career at Anfield

Nunez’s time in the Premier League can best be described as entertaining chaos, with the forward one of the most enjoyable players to watch in the English top-flight given how unpredictable the forward can be.

But with this being Nunez’s third season at Liverpool, this campaign could be the one that makes or breaks the striker’s career on Merseyside, with good performances needed from the South American.

Indeed, Liverpool spent big money to bring Nunez to Anfield two years ago, and the Reds will want to see the former Benfica man reach new heights in the coming months if he is to have a future in the Premier League.
