Video and investigative work lead to arrest of Peabody Square murder suspect

A man found with stab wounds Friday night in Peabody Square and later identified as David Abrain, 52, of Roxbury, died of his injuries after being transported by Boston EMS to a local hospital, according to Boston police, who arrested a 38-year-old Dorchester man for the killing Saturday.

Prosecutors say Abrain was stabbed once in the arm, but the wound severed a major artery and caused his death.

Officers were called to the scene at 1879 Dorchester Ave. shortly before 10 p.m., according to a Boston police report of the incident. Police closed streets around the scene for a few hours after the initial call and response.

On Saturday, investigators arrested David Adams, 38, of Dorchester, who police said matched “the description of last night’s suspect.” He was arraigned on murder charges in the Dorchester Division of Boston Municipal Court on Monday and was ordered held without bail.

Adams was seen on video “disposing of the murder weapon at the corner of the scene” with a “distinctively colored backpack,” according to prosecutors. The attacker was wearing “a black t-shirt, black shorts, distinctive red socks and was walking with a distinctive gait/limp.”

According to a report from the district attorney’s office, a homicide detective who canvassed the area the next day encountered Adams at a convenience store, noted his clothing and his similar “gait/limp.” The detective took Adams into custody after seeing him meet a woman in a nearby park.

“Between the two was the same distinctive backpack that the suspect retrieved immediately after the stabbing,” prosecutors allege.

Adams is due back in court for a pretrial conference on Sept. 26.
