Francisco Calvillo, 17, charged with fatal shooting

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a 17-year-old male charged with a fatal shooting last Friday at a Home Depot parking lot in Prairie Township.

The suspect, Francisco Calvillo is accused of shooting Javier Roberto Ventura-Sanchez, 20, at about 8:57 pm Friday at 100 South Grener Avenue. He and a friend went to the parking lot to meet Sanchez after a previous argument, the sheriff’s office said in a news release Wednesday.

During the meeting, Calvillo opened fire, striking Sanchez in the upper body before fleeing, according to the news release. Sanchez was transported to OhioHealth Doctor’s Hospital in critical condition, and he was pronounced dead at 9:45 p.m. Friday.

Calvillo is charged with aggravated murder in an arrest warrant, according to the sheriff’s office release. His whereabouts were unknown as of early Wednesday afternoon and deputies were “actively searching” for him, the sheriff’s office reported.

The sheriff’s office impounded and searched a gray 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 they believe Calvillo was driving, according to court records. The truck was found unoccupied on Saturday in the 3900 block of East Broad Street in Whitehall.

Six .22-caliber rifle casings and a gun cartridge with more bullets of the same caliber were found in the truck, according to court records.

Sanchez is survived by his parents, Nicolas Ventura and Belen Sanchez; sisters, Neli, Nancy and Maria and brother Abelardo, and numerous other family and friends, according to his obituary posted by the Jerry Spears Funeral Home of Hilliard.

A funeral Mass for Sanchez will be held on Friday, Aug. 30, at 10:30 am at Our Lady of Guadelupe, 143 E. Patterson Ave. in Columbus. Burial will follow at Galloway Cemetery.
