Whitney Fox leads Anna Paulina Luna by almost 4 points

Days after Whitney Fox She won her Democratic primary, according to a poll conducted by Florida Politics, leading the U.S. Representatives. Anna Paulina Luna.

According to St. Pete polls, nearly 48 percent of likely voters plan to support Fox, while just over 44 percent intend to vote for Luna. The incumbent is far from the 50 percent threshold needed to secure a second term.

The pollster surveyed participants on August 27, a week after Fox won a five-candidate Democratic primary in Florida’s 13th Congressional District.

“This poll confirms what we’re hearing from Pinellas County voters: They’re ready for change,” Fox said. “Our community is tired of the extreme partisanship and divisive rhetoric that has characterized Anna Paulina Luna’s tenure. People want real solutions, not her kind of superficial political theater.”

“Luna has done absolutely nothing to help families struggling with rising costs, and her support for a nationwide abortion ban with no exceptions for rape is horrific and harmful to women. I am running to be a voice for working families, to protect our beaches, and to lower the cost of living. We are building a coalition of Democrats, Independents, and Republicans who believe in a brighter future for our district.”

The same poll found that the Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris leading Republican candidate Donald Trump 51% to 46% in the Pinellas County district, and found a Democratic candidate for the Senate Debbie Mucarsel-Powell prominent outgoing Republican senator in the United States. Rick Scott49% to 46%.

The poll included responses from 843 voters, with pollsters indicating a margin of error of 3.4 percentage points.

Pinellas County has historically been a swing county that shifted more red, much like the state, in the last election cycle. In 2022, Luna won his seat on Eric Lynn with more than 53% of the vote, with the Democrat getting less than 45%. In the same election, more than 56% of the district’s voters supported the Republican U.S. senator. Marco Rubio re-election and more than 58% supported the governor. Ron DeSantis for a second term.

About 53% of voters in the district supported Trump for president in 2020 against Democrats Joe Biden in 2020. But the latest poll suggests that Pinellas voters could swing overwhelmingly left.

From the closing the book On the ballot ahead of Florida’s Aug. 20 primary, Republicans maintained a substantial lead among registered voters in the district. More than 205,000 registered Republicans live in the district, compared with nearly 151,000 Democrats and 136,000 no-party voters.

The poll found that Luna remains popular among Republican voters in that country, with more than 78% supporting the Republican incumbent and only 16% willing to cross the line and vote for Fox.

But the incumbent is performing poorly with other voters. Among Democrats, Fox has nearly 86% support, while just 6% want Luna re-elected. Among independents, about 51% plan to vote for Fox, while less than 39% favor Luna.

With two women serving as face of their partiesFox holds a slight edge among women voters, 47 percent to 44 percent.

Pollsters found that only the 70-and-older age group supported Luna. About 54% of respondents like the incumbent, while 37% prefer Fox. But Fox leads among 50-69 year-olds, with 49% to Luna’s 45%. Fox leads among 30-49 year-olds, 53% to 39%, and among voters under 30, 68% to 22%.

Federal Election Commission Reports The results show that Luna is enjoying the financial advantage of her incumbency. As of July 31, she had more than $917,000 in cash for the race, while Fox had $119,000. And that’s before Fox had to sell himself in a Democratic primary, while Luna won the nomination unopposed.

But Luna is one of only two Florida elected officials targeted by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, which has indicated it plans to spend heavily on the race. Fox was also one of only two Democratic congressional primary winners highlighted at a Florida Democratic Party news conference this week.
