Neighbor rescues man from burning Shelley house

SHELLEY — A man was dragged out of his trailer by his neighbor this weekend after a fire broke out in the residence.

“It’s a blessing,” said Shelley-Firth Fire District Deputy Chief Cheyenne Smith.

Shelley-Firth District Firefighters responded to the fire at around 5:50 a.m. Monday. The trailer was fully engulfed. The fire occurred in the Greenfield Acres neighborhood of Shelley, a residential area in the foothills.

Smith told EastIdahoNews.com that one man was transported by ground ambulance before firefighters arrived on scene.

“I heard the neighbor kind of drugged him and helped him get out,” he said. “I’m not sure how bad his injuries were.”

Smith said the man was taken to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls, where he was treated for burns. His condition is unknown.

No other injuries were reported.

The fire appears to have started in the bedroom, Smith said. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The house is considered a total loss.

“Early detection could have changed the outcome. We are big supporters of smoke detectors,” Smith added.
