B’luru Auto driver arrested after hitting woman who cancelled ride

A video has gone viral on social media in which an auto driver from Bengaluru can be seen harassing and abusing a woman. The driver, identified as Muthuraj, was caught verbally abusing and slapping the woman, Niti, after she allegedly cancelled a booking on a ride-hailing app. The accused was tracked and arrested by Magadi police on September 5 after the incident sparked outrage on social media, according to the deputy commissioner of police, Bengaluru (West).

Motorist’s ‘hooliganism’ sparks outrage

Niti shared with X a scary experience with a car driver in Bengaluru following a simple ride cancellation. “Yesterday I was severely harassed and physically assaulted by your car driver in Bengaluru following a simple ride cancellation,” she wrote.

Niti tagged the official social media accounts of ride-hailing app Ola and Bengaluru Police and claimed, “Despite reporting, your customer care has not responded. Immediate action is required!” Niti explained the entire situation in the following tweets.

The video made headlines and was widely shared on social media. Hours later, the DCP (West) of Bengaluru Police shared on X: “The driver of the car has been apprehended by Magadi Road police. Action is underway for the offence committed as per law.”

Ola also responded to the viral video.

Despite the arrest, netizens have expressed concern over the many cases of abuse by motorists in Bengaluru, especially against women. Several netizens expressed shock over the incident.
