US Open 2024 live updates: Pegula wins women’s semi-final, to face Sabalenka in final

World number 2 Aryna Sabalenka, the reigning Australian Open champion, will face world number 6 Jessica Pegula in the US Open women’s singles final on Saturday.

For Sabalenka, this is her fourth Grand Slam final. She is trying to win her first US Open after being eliminated in the final last year by American Coco Gauff.

Pegula is playing in her first Grand Slam final. After starting the US Open with a 0-6 record in Grand Slam quarterfinals, Pegula reached her first semifinal after defeating world number 1 Iga Swiatek. Then, in the semifinals, Pegula managed to come back from losing the first set and being down by a break in the second to defeat Karolina Muchova in three sets 1-6, 6-4, 6-2.

Sabalenka and Pegula are used to meeting each other. They met a few weeks ago in the Cincinnati Open final, won by Sabalenka 6-3, 7-5.

It’s a duel between Sabalenka’s power from the baseline and Pegula’s flat shots. At stake… a US Open title.

The first ball will be at 4pm ET on Saturday.
