Review: Week 1 Football, Jericho Day of Champions Tournament

Lorenzo Riddick blocked a 55-yard field goal with two seconds left to preserve Long Island Lutheran’s 34-32 victory over Boys Latin (Maryland) in a nonleague football opener Saturday. Jacob Butler caught touchdown passes of 48, 60, 25 and 12 yards from Peyton Robinson. Butler caught a game-tying two-point pass from Robinson in the fourth quarter. Kareem Gray added a 3-yard scoring run.

Clarke 34, Mineola 8: Matt Kurz threw for 176 yards and two touchdowns and added 29 rushing yards and a touchdown to lead Clarke in the Nassau III opener. Jake Thakkar ran for 90 yards and a touchdown on seven carries and Nick Barco ran five times for 47 yards and a touchdown. James Beckworth had a 48-yard touchdown catch and Christine Destine had three catches for 63 yards and a touchdown. Dylan Vikara intercepted two passes.

Manhasset 27, Hewlett 7: Attif Heathington ran for a 25-yard touchdown and returned an interception 60 yards for a touchdown for Manhasset in the Nassau III opener. Dylan Attard ran for 88 yards on 14 carries. Marcus Davis had a sack, Brady Baulch had two tackles for a loss, Kyle Melkonian had an interception and Kingston Takahasi and Parker Madden each had five tackles.

North Shore 36, Oyster Bay 0: James Carmadella ran for 101 yards and two touchdowns and threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Jack Damphouse to lead North Shore in the Nassau IV opener. Ryan Lau ran for 109 yards and a touchdown and Lacus Zhang added a 10-yard touchdown run. Tommy DiPinto had a sack and a tackle in the end zone for a safety and Ian Frame had an interception.

FRIDAY GAMES

Division 33, Bellmore JFK 0: Timmy Stanley completed 7 of 13 passes for 201 yards and three touchdowns and carried three times for 67 yards and a touchdown to lead the division in the Nassau III opener. Jason Dooley carried eight times for 83 yards and a touchdown and caught one pass for 45 yards.

Kenny Griffin caught two passes for 61 yards, including a 42-yard touchdown. Justin Gesualdo had a 35-yard touchdown reception and Kevin Moeller had a 52-yard touchdown reception. Anthony Stanco forced two fumbles and added a sack and Fateh Hira had an interception for the Blue Dragons.

Carle Place 33, Valley Stream South 6: Nick Moretta rushed for 26 yards for 181 yards and four touchdowns to lead Carle Place in the Nassau IV opener. He also led the Frogs with eight tackles. Colin Driscoll ran for 66 yards and threw for 81 yards, including a 14-yard touchdown pass to Kosta Koutsogiannis in the first quarter. Nick Simone caught a 15-yard touchdown pass from Daniel Casey for South.

Port Washington 46, Uniondale 0: Harry Eynon completed 6 of 9 passes for 130 yards and two touchdowns and Christian Sarchese ran nine times for 179 yards and three touchdowns to lead Port Washington in the Nassau I opener. Owen Kirshenblatt caught two passes for 73 yards and a touchdown, added five tackles and an interception.

BOYS’ FOOTBALL

JERICHO CHAMPIONS DAY TOURNAMENT

Long Beach 2, Xavier 1: Dominic Mendoza scored the game-winner in the final minute of regulation off a pass from Nick Amantea for Long Beach (1-0-1). Dunia Sibomana-Rodriguez added a goal, assisted by Josias Saravia. Matthew Nunez made nine saves.

Chaminade 2, Amityville 0: Thomas Prince and Jack Veletanga each scored a goal to give Chaminade its first game of the season. Antonio Testani had an assist.

St. Anthony’s 5, East Hampton 2: Christian Hall had two goals and an assist to lead St. Anthony’s (2-0). Ryan Lazaridis had a goal and an assist. Andrew Wicik and James Kelly each had a goal.
