BROWN COUNTY — Law enforcement is investigating a suspect based on multiple allegations following a chase and crash.

Shortly after 1:30 a.m. on Aug. 31, sheriff’s deputies responded to a vehicle pursuit in progress that began in the town of Horton, according to Sheriff John Merchant.

The suspect vehicle left Horton heading north on U.S. Highway 73 at a high rate of speed. A Brown County deputy made contact with the vehicle near U.S. Highway 73 and 210. The vehicle traveled toward Hiawatha and the driver lost control near Farm and Home, where Horton and Hiawatha police along with Brown County Sheriff’s deputies located the suspect, later identified as Montez Rodriguez, 24, of Independence, Missouri, who struck a tree line. He was eventually arrested on charges from the Horton Police Department and is no longer in custody.
