A bar offered to pay everyone’s bills if the Patriots won. He paid.

There may be no place in America happier to see the New England Patriots pull off a surprise Week 1 victory than a certain Washington DC sports bar.

That would be Dirty Water, a DC hotbed for Boston sports fans who placed a big bet on Sunday’s game against the heavily favored Cincinnati Bengals.

The bar wrote on its Instagram page: “If the Patriots win, everyone’s bar tab will be on the house.”

Despite the Patriots’ slim odds of success, as 8.5-point underdogs, Dirty Water paid a high price. According to the Boston Globe, the bar offered “about $6,000 in drinks.”

On social media, Dirty Water wrote that they were offering drinks until the end of the game.

“A good portion of those shots were shots as the Patriots knelt during the final 1:40 seconds,” the bar wrote.

Outkick’s David Hookstead, who wrote that he was at Dirty Water on Sunday, said he saw “a lot of patriots leaving pretty big tips” after getting their drinks.

It was a significant financial loss, but the bar was mostly positive about the results on social media, responding to comments saying they were happy to see the team win.

The bar, however, issued a warning.

“No, we will not be offering this for Celtics games next year,” Dirty Water wrote in an edited version of his Instagram post.
