Seth Meyers suggests easy way for Kamala Harris to ‘trap’ Trump during debate

Hillary Clinton gave Kamala Harris advice ahead of Tuesday night’s presidential debate: “attract” Donald Trump. So on Monday night, Seth Meyers offered a simple way to do just that.

In an interview with the New York Times, Clinton noted that Harris “shouldn’t be baited. She should provoke him. He can be rattled. He doesn’t know how to respond to direct, substantive attacks.” Clinton cited Trump’s response when she called him a “Russian puppet” during their debate as evidence that it would work.

“Oh, good idea. You know what she should do? Come out as a black woman,” Meyers joked.

Trump’s desire to attack Harris because of her race and gender has long been suggested by political pundits, especially since he attacked Hillary Clinton on the latter issue in 2016.

The topic even came up on “Late Night” last week, when MSNBC host Chris Hayes went on the show and noted that “all he wants to do is talk about race, gender and Kamala Harris’ identity.”

Hayes added that Trump, however, seems to be aware of how this would play out for him, and that is the only reason he is refraining from doing so.

“There’s a part of him that understands that this isn’t the winning attack on her, but he means she’s really stupid,” Hayes said. “She’s a stupid black woman, that’s what he really means.”
