Kate says she has completed her chemotherapy treatment

The Princess of Wales has expressed her relief at completing her chemotherapy treatment, in a very personal video released by Kensington Palace.

Catherine revealed in March that she was undergoing treatment for cancer and had been out of the public eye for much of this year.

She will be taking part in a few engagements this year, including commemorative events in November and her annual Christmas carol concert.

But in an emotional video message, she said this year has been “incredibly difficult” and “life as you know it can change in an instant”.

This latest health update sends a positive message about her progress, but there is still a long way to go.

Kensington Palace said it was not possible at this stage to say whether she had been cured of cancer.

The princess describes the “turbulent waters” of her cancer experience as “complex, frightening and unpredictable”.
“With humility, it also confronts you with your own vulnerabilities in a way you’ve never considered before, and with that, a new perspective on everything,” the princess says, in an unusually personal video filmed last month in Norfolk.

The video, shot in autumnal colours, gives a glimpse of how happy she is to have completed this stage of her treatment.
“As summer comes to an end, I can’t tell you how relieved I am to finally be done with my chemotherapy treatment,” she said, seen driving and walking with her family.

The princess is expected to return for a “handful” of visits later this year, possibly including the annual Remembrance Service at the Cenotaph.

But palace sources also stress that there is still a long way to go before a full return and that the princess will make her health her main concern over the coming months.

“My road to healing and full recovery is long and I must continue to take each day as it comes,” she said.

She says that despite the difficult times, her experience has given her a “renewed sense of hope and appreciation for life.”
Catherine has been convalescing and away from public duties for much of this difficult year.

Her health problems began in January when she was hospitalized for an unspecified type of abdominal surgery.

In March, the princess revealed she was suffering from cancer, in a video message saying she was undergoing treatment and would need privacy while recovering.

Catherine described it as a “huge shock” after “an incredibly difficult few months”.

Her first public appearance of the year was at the Royal Family ceremony in June, when she waved to the crowd from the balcony of Buckingham Palace.

Ahead of the appearance, the princess had issued a personal statement of cautious optimism, announcing her return but saying she was “not out of the woods yet” and had had “good days and bad days” with her cancer treatment.

Her last appearance was in July, when she received a standing ovation at Wimbledon while watching the men’s singles final.
