This Houston Company Is Here to Help You When Disaster Strikes

HOUSTON – Summer is coming to an end, but unfortunately, Houston’s hurricane season isn’t over yet. We’ve had a rough start, and as we watch Tropical Storm Francine develop off the coast, we’re reminded of how important it is to be prepared.

Frontier Services is a local company that knows a thing or two about hurricane cleanup. They also know how to best prepare you. Houston Life reporter Melanie Camp took us on a tour of their facility to learn more about how they’re helping Houstonians in times of need.

When disaster strikes, whether it’s a fire, flood or storm that damages your home, you want the right team to help you clean up afterward.

“When you first meet homeowners, you usually meet them when they’re going through a really tough time,” said Frank Ngu, director of operations for Frontier Services. Ngu said the team is honored to have the opportunity to help Houstonians restore their homes to the way they were before the disaster. “We pride ourselves on providing our clients with the comfort and joy of returning to their treasured home and seeing those items they thought they probably lost. But now, here it is, restored to how it was, as if nothing had happened.”

Restoring damaged furniture is part of any cleaning operation. When it comes to your furniture, Frontier Services uses cutting-edge technology to make the restoration process easier. “You should expect the contractor to be able to not only clean, not just vacuum with a HEPA vacuum, but also to ozone treat each item, especially if it has been involved in a fire,” Ngu said.

Training technicians to properly perform disaster restoration work is as important as the work itself. At Frontier Services, they have what they call their “flood house,” a two-room structure that includes a kitchen and a carpeted room. Here, technicians learn some of the tasks they will face when faced with a disaster to help clean up a home. They learn how to vacuum water out of carpet and underlayment, and they learn how to use dehumidifiers and dry out a flooded room.

“We put a lot of water inside this house and simulate water damage,” explained deputy operations manager Hector Moreno.

Operations Manager Christine Escobedo said having well-trained technicians is very important when looking for a disaster restoration company.

Escobar said: “I would make sure, first and foremost, that they are licensed, insured and have the proper certifications to do any water damage restoration.

You can check a contractor’s certifications on the State of Texas website and the Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC).

“It has to be a local Houston contractor. There are a lot of storm chasers that come in and chase storms, so you really want to make sure you choose someone from the Houston area, who is close to where you live so they can take care of you if something happens after everyone leaves because of a storm,” Escobar said.

Another benefit of working with a local team is being able to tour their facilities. “Go visit the warehouse. See where your items will be stored,” Ngu said.

As Moreno said: “We are here to help you.”
