Pete Doherty and Carl Barât unveil two new jackets inspired by The Libertines

Pete Doherty and Carl Barat have designed two new Libertines-inspired jackets in collaboration with menswear brand Blue Flowers.

The Manchester-based clothing brand designed the two new jackets – a trench coat and a bomber jacket – in close collaboration with the band members, who chose the fabrics, construction and other design details.

The trench jacket features Doherty’s personal artwork printed on the inside of the jacket’s lining, while Barât chose a lightweight jacket that would be comfortable to wear during stage performances.

The bomber jacket also features a special tribute to their Albion Rooms hotel in Margate.

The jackets are now available for pre-order on the Blue Flowers website here , with a limited quantity then available online for the official launch later in 2024.

“Blue Flowers is both inspired and driven by nostalgia, interpreted and reworked for everyday wear,” Blue Flowers founder Mark Kendrick said in a press release. “We’re always looking to work with like-minded artists and musicians, so this project with The Libertines made perfect sense.”

“Their nod to old-world culture is everything we stand for. The band had a lot of great ideas that we incorporated into both designs. We can’t wait to show them off to everyone.”

NME was invited to tour the Libertines’ Albion Rooms in 2020, which now serve as the band’s headquarters.

“The band lives in three different countries, and the only thing that really binds us together without that kind of thing is the tour schedules,” Barât said. “To have a place that’s our own HQ and where we all have equal ownership and participation – that was the dream.”

In more recent Doherty news, Babyshambles reunited on stage in August at one of the musician’s solo concerts.

This came after he teased a Babyshambles comeback during an interview with NME earlier in the summer.

“Yeah, I’ve heard about it,” he said. “There’s been rumors about it for a while, but now it seems like it’s happening. You’d have to talk to Jai (his manager) because I heard he met Drew (McConnell, former bassist) last week. I think there’s even some dates lined up.”

The Libertines’ latest album, ‘All Quiet On The Eastern Esplanade’, was released earlier this year, with NME writing that the group had “found its voice again.”

The four-star review adds: “The band’s first album in nearly a decade doesn’t seek the same intoxicating effect as their early material. They sound better for it.”
