Tuesday’s presidential debate will give Americans perhaps the most in-depth look at a campaign that has been radically reshaped. Kamala Harris and Donald Trump will meet face-to-face for the first time at 9 p.m. ET in Philadelphia.

For both men, it’s a chance to showcase their starkly different visions for the country after a tumultuous summer of campaigning. Trump, a 78-year-old white man, has struggled to adjust to Harris, the first woman, Black person or person of South Asian descent to serve as vice president.

Harris, meanwhile, will face a series of in-depth interviews, a rare opportunity for her. She has participated in only one formal interview in the six weeks since she took office on the Democratic ticket.

The first presidential debate between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump will air live for 90 minutes on September 10 at 9 p.m. ET. ABC News’ Linsey Davis and David Muir will moderate the debate. Some have argued that real-time fact-checkers should also be involved in moderating the debate. Each candidate has agreed to mute their microphone when the opposing candidate speaks and is not allowed to have pre-written notes. Harris and Trump will be allowed to have a notepad, pen, and water bottle. The candidates will also not be given topics or questions in advance. Key topics like abortion rights, the economy, border security, and the war in Gaza are expected to be discussed. Harris is also expected to address Trump’s questions about her black identity. Vice President and Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris has previously said in response to former President Trump’s comments that he should “tell him to his face.” Harris also dismissed Trump’s comments as “the same old tired playbook” in a recent interview with CNN.
