Kamala Harris agrees to second presidential debate against Donald Trump

Kamala Harris has agreed to a new presidential debate against Donald Trump.

The vice president took to her X account (formerly Twitter) to indicate that she was ready to take the stage again, this time on CNN.

“I would gladly accept a second presidential debate on October 23,” she wrote“I hope @realDonaldTrump joins me.”

Her campaign manager, Jen O’Malley Dillon, released a statement on the debate, noting in part that “the American people deserve another chance to see Vice President Kamala Harris and Donald Trump debate before they cast their ballots. It would be unprecedented in modern history for there to be only one general election debate. Debates offer a unique opportunity for voters to see the candidates side by side and take stock of their competing visions for America.”

Like the first presidential debate of 2024, which pitted President Joe Biden against Trump, this one would take place at CNN’s studios in Atlanta.

The former president previously told Truth Social that there would be “no third debate” after ABC’s September 10 debate in Philadelphia. However, according to CNN, he told reporters at a campaign stop in California earlier this week that he would consider debating Harris again “if I was in the right frame of mind.”

The format of the October debate would follow a similar format to previous ones, lasting 90 minutes without a live studio audience.

Harris’ running mate Tim Walz is scheduled to debate Trump’s running mate JD Vance on October 1 from 9-10:30 p.m. ET on CBS News.

Americans deserve another chance to see Vice President Kamala Harris and Donald Trump debate before they vote. It would be unprecedented in modern history for there to be just one election debate. Debates offer voters a unique opportunity to see the candidates side by side and take stock of their competing visions for America.

Vice President Harris is ready to share the stage with Donald Trump again, and she has accepted CNN’s invitation to a debate on October 23. Donald Trump should have no problem accepting this debate. It is the same format and setup as the CNN debate he attended and claimed to have won in June, when he praised CNN’s moderators, rules, and audience.

We look forward to Vice President Harris having another opportunity in the CNN debate to demonstrate her command of the issues and why it is time to turn the page on Donald Trump and chart a new course for America.
