  • The specially equipped Wagoneer includes flashing lights but has no mechanical upgrades.
  • Power is provided by a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged inline-six developing 420 hp and 468 lb-ft.
  • The Wagonner joins several other Stellantis models used by law enforcement.

Select law enforcement and government fleets in the United States will soon be driving 2024 Jeep Wagoneer L models, now equipped with a special upgrade package tailored to the long-wheelbase SUV.

These ready-to-go Wagoneers come with everything but a disco ball on the roof: flashing red and blue lights behind the grille, under the top of the windshield, and in the rear windows. Jeep didn’t stop there; it also added a new siren and speaker system, a rear gun locker, a power distribution center, and all the wiring needed to keep the light show running smoothly.

Let’s be clear: The Wagoneer L is not a pursuit vehicle, so don’t expect it to burn rubber in high-speed chases. It’s better suited for security patrols or traveling as a Special Service Vehicle (SSV), much like the Ford F-150 and Expedition SSV or Ram 1500 SSV. It’s the SUV equivalent of a security guard in a three-piece suit: presentable, but not designed for pursuit.

Under the hood, the law enforcement Wagoneer L remains the same. It features a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged inline-six that makes 420 hp and 468 lb-ft of torque, mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Available in both 4×2 and 4×4 configurations, it has the power but not the mission of a speedster showdown.

All the expected safety features are also present. These include adaptive cruise control with stop and go function, eight airbags, blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic detection, electronic stability control and active lane keeping. The Wagoneer L also has a 360-degree surround-view camera system, a head-up display and a front and rear parking assist system.

Stellantis’ American arm has a long history of providing law enforcement-specific vehicles. Their specially equipped Chargers and Durangos are practically staples in police stations across the country, and now the Wagoneer L is ready to join the party.
