The Most Common Netflix Error Codes (and How to Fix Them)


Download Netflix on whatever device you use and you’ll want to start enjoying yourself as soon as possible, without staring at an error message popping up on your screen.

To help you troubleshoot, Netflix often displays an error code along with an apology. If you know what this code means, you can start troubleshooting the problem, which is where this list comes in.

Here are the codes people see most often, based on where they appear in Netflix’s official help documentation. If the code you see isn’t listed here, check the messages that also appear on your screen and head to the Netflix Help Center.

Netflix error code (-12)

Netflix error codes actually start with a minus sign, and the error code (-12) refers to good old network connectivity issues: basically, your internet connection isn’t working properly. You’ll need to follow the usual troubleshooting steps for this, including checking whether or not your other devices and apps can connect to the internet.

Netflix Error Code (-1001)

This error code appears when your device is having trouble connecting to the Netflix service. This could mean that your internet connection is down, your device can’t connect to the internet, or Netflix is ​​experiencing an outage (check that here). Trying Netflix on a different device will help you determine what’s causing the problem.

Netflix Error Code (-1014)

If you see the error code (-1014), it means that Netflix needs to refresh some of its app data. The recommended solution is to sign out of Netflix and then sign back in. If you’re using the app on a phone, for example, you can sign out by tapping My profilethen the three-line button in the upper right corner, then Log out And Log out once again to confirm.

Netflix Error Code 117

This issue is related to data corruption in the Netflix app, and the best way to fix the problem is to completely remove Netflix from the device you’re using it on and then reinstall it. If you’re using an iPhone, for example, long-press the Netflix app icon on the home screen: Choose Delete App > Delete App > Delete to remove it from your device.

Netflix Error Code 1001 or 10002

Error codes 1001 and 10002 apply to iPhones and iPads and, according to Netflix, mean that there is “information stored on your device that needs to be refreshed.” Try restarting your phone or tablet to fix the problem, and if that doesn’t work, uninstall and reinstall the Netflix app. You should also apply any pending iOS or iPadOS updates.

Netflix Error Code 1003

Error code 1003, sometimes accompanied by the message “Please try again later,” means you’re using outdated data or an outdated app that needs to be updated. Your best bet is to make sure your device’s software is up to date, then check for Netflix app updates (and reinstall the app, if necessary).

This usually appears on Android devices and indicates data that needs to be refreshed. Restart your device and, if that doesn’t fix the problem, clear the data cache in the Netflix app (via Apps > Netflix > Storage & Cache in Android settings). If you are still having issues with the same error code after this, delete the Netflix app from your device and reinstall it.

Netflix Error Code 1044

If you see Netflix error code 1044 on your screen, you’re using a TV, streaming device, cable box, or Android device to watch Netflix. According to Netflix, if you keep getting this error, it means that Netflix doesn’t support your device (these devices do), though it’s a good idea to try restarting your device and reinstalling Netflix as well.

According to Netflix, error codes C7111-5095 and F7111-5095 mean “there may be a problem with your account.” They usually appear because you’re trying to use Netflix in a different country, or because your subscription is part of a larger plan or was purchased from a third party. Try contacting Netflix support directly for help.

If you see this error, it means there is a problem with one of the downloaded shows or movies you are trying to watch, especially on an Android device. Netflix’s recommended troubleshooting steps include first trying to shut down and restart your Mac, then checking for any pending macOS software updates.

Netflix Error Code S7701-1003

Error code S7701-1003 is one of the more specific ones here: it means that you’re trying to watch Netflix via Safari on an iPad or Mac, and Safari is currently in private browsing mode. If you open a new browser window that isn’t using private browsing and then sign in to Netflix, you should find that you can stream movies and shows normally again.

Error codes tvq-pb-101 (E104) or tvq-pb-101 (1.10.5005) appear when the device you are using does not support Netflix playback. As a result, you will not be able to watch Netflix on that device. You can contact the manufacturer for advice or upgrade to a device that supports Netflix.
