KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – The Knoxville Symphony Orchestra will return to Market Square Thursday night with a special song on its setlist.

The song is inspired by 13-year-old Acheley East, who battled leukemia. Earlier this summer, Make-A-Wish East Tennessee granted her wish to go to Walt Disney World. Her story was shared with the nonprofit Sing Me a Story, which creates music based on the imaginations of children in need.

Contacted to make this dream a reality, KSO’s Trianne Newbrey said the members were honored.

“We were very humbled to be approached for this opportunity,” Newbrey said. “And of course, it’s something we were very excited to do. I mean, 70 percent of what we do is in the community and when we get a chance to do something like this, so personal and so impactful for someone in the community, it means so much to us.”

Newbrey said KSO was excited to premiere the song during its Market Square performance so families could join in the fun. She said while personal, the song is upbeat and creative.

“The story follows two Squishmallows, Guac and Cheese. They’re the two Squishmallows that accompanied Acheley to the hospital during his treatments. And he thought it was fitting to write a story inspired by them. And he added this cute little dog, Fluffy,” Newbrey said. “The story follows them on an exciting adventure where they get into all sorts of shenanigans in search of sushi.”

The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 12 and is free to the public. You can learn more about Acheley’s song and how to donate to Make-A-Wish East Tennessee and Sing Me a Story here.
