Man in Bothell sex abuse case previously arrested at same apartment complex

The man who deputies say broke into a stranger’s home and sexually assaulted a child last week had a history of problems at the Snohomish County apartment complex where the incident occurred.

The 26-year-old was arrested and booked into the Snohomish County Jail this week on charges of sexual assault of a minor, burglary and an outstanding warrant. KOMO News is not releasing his name because prosecutors have not yet filed charges against him.

Court records show that in the early morning hours of Sept. 6, the man entered a family’s home at the Bailey Farms apartment complex at 1225 183rd Street Southeast in an unincorporated area of Snohomish County near Bothell.

Once inside the home, an arrest report states the man entered a girl’s bedroom and sexually assaulted her. Officers responded to a 911 call reporting the incident around 2 a.m. and began searching for the man with a police dog.

A report from the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office said deputies informed dispatchers of a prior arrest for a burglary at the same complex involving a suspect who had been arrested for a similar incident.

While investigators were on scene, another resident of the apartment complex approached them and said she had been the victim of a burglary last year. The resident said she had surveillance video showing the same man on the property that morning.

Detectives say they matched the 26-year-old man in the video to the suspect who was previously arrested for burglary.

Employees at the apartment complex also knew the man, according to the arrest report. The employees provided officers with several photos of the man taken during previous incidents at Bailey Farm.

Detectives noted that surveillance video from the morning of the sexual assault matched previous photos of the man, as well as his driver’s license photo.

Court records show the man was arrested multiple times at Bailey Farm Apartments and had trespassed on the property.

Investigators arrested the man Monday and found what appeared to be the same clothing seen in the surveillance video, according to the arrest report.

The report says investigators showed the man surveillance photos from the night of the assault and he denied the person in the video was him.

The man remains in the Snohomish County Jail, charged with sexual assault of a minor, a class A felony, burglary, a class B felony, and misdemeanor criminal trespass. His bail is set at $505,000.
