Raiders DT Butler said: From the locker room, Ravens’ week

HENDERSON, Nev. – The Las Vegas Raiders find themselves with a disappointing 0-1 record entering the 2024 NFL regular season, heading to Baltimore to face the fearsome Lamar Jackson and the Ravens this week.

The quickest way to heal the wounds of this disappointing loss to the Chargers would be to beat the Ravens this weekend.

Raiders DT Adam Butler is regarded throughout the NFL as one of the best disciplined defensive tackles. We spoke to him in the locker room about that skill and his key role in stopping Baltimore Ravens superstar QB Lamar Jackson.

You can watch the full press conference below:

Below is the transcript of Antonio Pierce’s press conference held earlier today.

Q: What did you see on video that highlighted some of the issues you had on offense on Sunday?

Minshew II: “Yeah, I think it’s mostly a matter of consistency. There were some good plays, some explosive plays. We didn’t take care of the ball and that always puts you in a tough spot, so we’ve got to do a better job of that. And we’ve just got to do a better job of staying on track, allowing us to get good second and third downs and staying on the field.”

Q: AP said you’ve been throwing some pretty explosive passes and trying to shoot downfield, but you haven’t been able to connect as often. What do you think it takes for that to happen?

Minshew II: “I don’t know, man. It changes week to week, you have a little bit of timing with the defense you’re playing and the way they’re calling it. And it’s just timing, and we haven’t had the shots down the field that have become open like we wanted. But we’re always looking for those shots, we’re always looking for ways to give our guys a chance out there because we’ve got guys that can make plays.”

Q: How comfortable were you with Luke Getsy’s system? Obviously, we talked about it in training camp, but actually applying it to guys, how comfortable were you with them?

Minshew II: “Yeah, I felt pretty comfortable, man. I think it’s always going to be a work in progress. I’d like to think Week 1 won’t be like Week 18. We’re going to continue to get better, even from Week 1 to Week 2. I think there’s a lot of tightening up that can happen in terms of assignments. It starts with me, I can do a better job. But I’m looking forward to continuing to grow the offense and learning how to maximize it to maximize our guys.”

Q: What challenges do you see for Baltimore’s defense this Sunday?

Minshew II: “Yeah, no, they’ve been one of the most consistent teams in the league for a number of years. I’ve played them a number of times and they’re always a challenge. They’re very solid against the run, they really trust their front to stop the run, and they’ve got some really smart guys on the back end that get around the ball and create turnovers. So I think the challenge is taking care of the ball, like I said last week, and keeping us on track and getting us on good third downs.”

Q: After playing the first game, did you feel like you needed more repetitions in the preseason games ahead of time or was that not a factor?

Minshew II: “No, I never thought about it.”

Q: You talked about taking care of the ball. I saw that you started practice with ball security drills. I don’t know if you do that every practice, but was that a big focus this week?

Minshew II: “No, we do that every practice, man. You have game plans, and you don’t execute them very well, but I think we’re doubling down on the principles that we believe in, and I think that’s going to help us be successful.
