The GX550, a unique model from Lexus and Malbon, is the ultimate golf SUV

Lexus may want to get into the golf cart business.

The Japanese luxury brand has teamed up with Malbon Golf to create a one-of-a-kind GX550. This striking SUV has been equipped with a host of cutting-edge golf accessories in an effort to create the ultimate vehicle for a day on the course.

Lexus’ Land Cruiser counterpart has plenty of style in its own right, but Malbon, the maker of this year’s most famous golf vest, has helped take the vehicle to the next level. The 4×4’s boxy body has been given an emerald green cladding with white graphics inspired by a topographical map of the fairways. It’s a design that will appeal to anyone used to carving their way around the course. The unique design is highlighted by a gloss white roof and all-white 22-inch alloy wheels. There’s plenty of Malbon branding too, including on the grille and, most notably, on the disc covers that sit above the wheels. Rounding things off is a roof rack fitted with two Pelican BX140R cargo boxes, as well as a Yakima Slim Shady roof-mounted awning if you need some protection from the elements.

But it’s not just the exterior that sets the Malbon Edition apart from other GX550s. The cabin has also been redesigned to make it even more golf-friendly. The base SUV has three rows of seats, allowing it to accommodate up to seven adults. Some of that space has been sacrificed so that the one-off model only has room for four. We imagine that anyone lucky enough to take the sleek off-roader for a spin won’t mind. That’s because the second row now features two captain’s chairs. The third row, meanwhile, has been completely removed and replaced with a custom sliding storage box.

The rear storage space is the feature of the Malbon Edition that will likely make golfers green with envy. The box can hold everything a golfer could possibly need on the course, including four golf bags, extra irons, balls, tees, shoes, and other accessories. If that’s not enough, Pelican exterior cases provide space for woods and other long clubs.

Unfortunately, the GX550 is a one-off. Lexus’ press release doesn’t even mention the possibility of the vehicle being produced in a limited run. You will, however, be able to see it in person. The SUV will make appearances at several events between now and the end of the golf season, including the Oregon Buckets Club Golf Tournament in early October, the Buckets Club Tournament in mid-November, and, of course, the Lexus Malbon Invitational in Miami in early December.
