The Tyreek Hill incident left a mark on MDPD history

MIAMI GARDENS, Florida – Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill was blunt earlier this week in saying he wants the Miami-Dade police officer seen on body camera throwing him to the ground removed from his position.

“He had to leave because not only did he treat me badly, but he treated my teammates with disrespect,” Hill said.

That officer is Daniel Torres, a 27-year veteran of the Miami-Dade Police Department. He is now on administrative leave following the incident.

A video of the traffic stop outside Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday was released by police a day later.

Body camera video shows Hill being stopped outside the stadium and asked by officers to roll down his window before being forcibly removed from the car, thrown to the ground and handcuffed.

Local 10 News obtained Torres’ employee profile Friday, which shows his work history since his start date in October 1996.

Since then, he has received 29 awards that include devotion to duty, professionalism and assistance to the public.

But the filing also includes complaints about alleged use of force — some substantiated and some not — conduct unbecoming an officer and improper use of his body camera.

He has been involved in more than a dozen use-of-force incidents and has been disciplined 10 times. One incident in 2018 led to a 20-day suspension.

The filing obtained by Local 10 News does not include details about the incidents that led to disciplinary action.

The Miami-Dade police investigation into the traffic stop and Torres’ actions is ongoing.

Torres’ attorney said the decision to leave his client was premature and is asking for his reinstatement.
