It was a daring attack in broad daylight, caught on camera.

Surveillance video, shared with NBC 5 by The Dallas Morning News, shows a woman waiting at the corner of Field and Elm streets in downtown Dallas when a man approaches her from behind, hits her in the head with an object and knocks her down. The man then walks away calmly.

Novah Lynn crosses the intersection on her way home from the library.

“I didn’t think people were actually coming and I was hitting people out of nowhere for no reason because this lady was literally trying to cross the street,” Lynn said.

The Dallas Police Department and Dallas Fire Department responded to the attack and said the woman was taken to a hospital.

Video shared with NBC 5 by The Dallas Morning News shows the violent attack on a woman at the corner of North Field Street and Main Street in downtown Dallas.

Surveillance cameras recorded the attack around 1:15 p.m. on Thursday.

It had been less than an hour since three people, including a Dallas ISD student, were injured in a shooting at the Continental Apartment building nearby.

Jennifer Scripps, CEO of Downtown Dallas Inc., which advocates on behalf of those who work, visit and live in the downtown area, released the following statement:

We are horrified by this unprovoked attack. Downtown Dallas, Inc. (DDI) security officers were on the scene moments after the incident. We pray for the victim’s recovery and are working with law enforcement to locate the attacker. Our partners at Dallas City Hall share our outrage and we will work together to ensure that downtown remains a safe place for all residents, workers, and visitors. We have zero tolerance for violent crime.

On Friday, police and security officers from Downtown Dallas Inc. were spotted near the intersection where Thursday’s attack took place.

“We’ve been really fortunate downtown to not have traditionally struggled with violent crime and we want to keep it that way,” Scripps told NBC 5.

Lynn says she will now take a different route home and watch her back after the violent and unprovoked attack.

No arrests have been made in connection with the attack or the triple shooting. Dallas police said they are investigating both incidents.
