IRONDEQUOIT, N.Y. — A 34-year-old man has been charged with murder in the death of a family of four in Irondequoit.

Julio Cesar Pimentel Soriano, originally from the Dominican Republic, has been in custody at the Monroe County Jail since Saturday, Sept. 7, according to jail records. Irondequoit police announced the arrest Friday morning.

Police have been investigating since first responders discovered the bodies of two children and their parents in the basement of a home on Knapp Avenue. Firefighters responded to the scene Saturday, Aug. 31, after a fire broke out.

According to Irondequoit police, Soriano entered Puerto Rico illegally and obtained a fake New York state ID, which allowed him to travel to the continental United States. Police say he is also wanted for a 2019 murder in the Dominican Republic. He was charged with four counts of first-degree murder in Irondequoit Municipal Court.

Police said they are releasing little information at this time as they try to find others responsible for the killings. Anyone with information is asked to call Irondequoit police at 585-336-6000. Callers can remain anonymous.

At a news conference, Chief Scott Peters said the family was targeted. He did not say how they were killed.

“It was a horrible scene. In almost 32 years of doing this, I’ve never seen anything like it,” he said.

Police identified the children as Evangeline Ubaldo-Moreno, 4, and Sebastian Ubaldo-Moreno, 2. The parents are Fraime Ubaldo, 30, and Marangely Moreno-Santiago, 26.
