Liverpool lineups as Darwin Nunez and Alexis Mac Allister make their decisions for Nottingham Forest

Liverpool have predicted their lineups for their Premier League home game against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

Liverpool will resume their season after the international break with a home game against Nottingham Forest on Saturday. New Reds manager Arne Slot will be hoping to maintain a 100 per cent start to the season after a third successive Premier League win, winning 3-0 at Manchester United a fortnight ago.

Forest, meanwhile, are also unbeaten, although Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have managed two home draws and a 1-0 win over promoted Southampton.

While Liverpool will be without Harvey Elliott, Slot has a full squad to choose from. And here, our ECHO editors wonder who they would pick for the clash against the Tricky Trees.

And so the Slot era truly begins. After a quiet start with one game per week over the first three weekends, Liverpool now face the first of seven games in 22 days.

So what will the Reds manager do? While he prefers not to rotate his squad too much, now may be the time to give it a try with a home game against Forest after the international break.

Darwin Nunez was one of the few first-team squad members not away on international duty and, having been on the bench so far, he is likely to start ahead of Diogo Jota in the centre of attack with Luis Diaz on his left and Mohamed Salah on his right.

In midfield, there is no point taking a risk with Alexis Mac Allister, which would allow a fitter Curtis Jones to join Ryan Gravenberch in the two lowest positions. Dominik Szoboszlai can continue to play the number 10 role.

The defence, meanwhile, is set to remain unchanged. That means Alisson Becker in goal, Trent Alexander-Arnold at right-back and Andy Robertson on the left, with captain Virgil van Dijk partnering Ibrahima Konate in central defence.

My team (4-2-3-1): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Gravenberch, Jones; Salah, Szoboszlai, Diaz; Nunez.

Paul Gorst – ‘Mac Allister a cause for concern during the break

Harvey Elliott’s broken foot could well tip the balance in Liverpool’s favour, but they returned from the international break relatively unscathed. But with AC Milan in contention in a revamped Champions League, Arne Slot could well make some changes for the visit of Nottingham Forest today.

These changes will not affect the goals. Alisson Becker retains his place behind a back four of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate and Andy Robertson. Jarell Quansah was in contention but the powerful Konate is preferred to Chris Wood, who will no doubt look to isolate the Reds’ centre-back who is not called Van Dijk.

In midfield, I’ll rest Alexis Mac Allister and bring back Curtis Jones for his first minutes of the season. The Academy graduate has been out since being named as a substitute for the Ipswich game almost a month ago, but with Milan coming up and Mac Allister a worry during the break against Argentina, the World Cup winner can rest. Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai retain their places.

Up front, Diogo Jota can also take a breather. I give Darwin Nunez his first start of the season with Jota in reserve at Milan. The Uruguayan forward has been training with his club all week after being suspended by his national team, so he could be fresh and ready to prove himself. Cody Gakpo also starts on the left and Mohamed Salah keeps his place. Federico Chiesa can continue to prepare.

My team (4-2-3-1): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Gravenberch, Jones; Salah, Szoboszlai, Gakpo, Nunez.

Theo Squires – “If Mac Allister is declared fit, he will start”

Having dismantled Manchester United so convincingly before the September international break, I see no reason for Arne Slot to change his team against Nottingham Forest. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it after all. Team management can wait until the Champions League and League Cup actually get underway later this month.

The defence is coming together. Ibrahima Konate may have had a difficult international break with France, but he seems to be back to his best form for Liverpool so far this season and therefore retains his place.

Alexis Mac Allister had injury problems while away with Argentina but they were never serious enough to send him home and he was still selected by Lionel Scaloni. If he is deemed fit to play, after Slot gave some encouraging news on the midfielder, then he is fit enough to start in my opinion.

Harvey Elliott’s broken foot allows Dominik Szoboszlai to continue as the number 10, with Mohamed Salah and the in-form Luis Diaz on the wings. While it is tempting to start Darwin Nunez up front for this game, Diogo Jota retains his place.

The Uruguayan could be used against AC Milan, and Federico Chiesa could also make his debut on Italian soil. But fingers crossed he’s fit enough to make his Anfield debut.

My team (4-2-3-1): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Gravenberch, MacAllister; Salah, Szoboszlai, Diaz; Jota.
