Crisis in the PDP: “He did not participate in his own election”, the national president dismisses Dino Melaye

Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum, Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has expressed concerns over internal party loyalty, citing the actions of former Senator Dino Melaye during the recent Kogi governorship election.

In an interview with Everyday confidenceDamagum responded to Melaye’s remarks that the PDP was a “party of yesteryear”.

Damagum directly linked Melaye’s actions to the party’s challenges, saying: “He is part of the problem.” The president pointed to Melaye’s failure to run for governor of Kogi State, where he reportedly did not even vote for himself.

“It is well known that he did not participate in his own election,” Damagum stressed, questioning Melaye’s commitment to the party.

PDP President Criticizes Dino Melaye

Furthermore, Damagum criticized the damage Melaye allegedly did to the party’s image, stressing that those who have access to the party’s platform have a responsibility to promote its interests. While acknowledging that winning or losing is inherent in the political process, Damagum stressed that candidates must at least “lose credibly.”

This development comes as the PDP suspended Melaye over alleged anti-party activities, which has exacerbated internal divisions within the party. The PDP Ayetoro/Iluagba Ward 1 in Kogi suspended the former senator on Friday, September 13, over allegations of anti-party activities.

The PDP crisis was not resolved even after the 2023 presidential election when the party lost to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Tinubu.

Primate Ayodele predicts end of PDP

Legitimate.ng It had been previously reported that the PDP was expected to face its final destruction by August 2014, as the internal crisis rocking the opposition deepens.

Primate Elijah Ayodele, spiritual leader of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, has revealed a new vision predicting the fate of the party.

Ayodele said there were plans to destroy the party and urged affected members to strategize to avert destruction.
