Shots on target from Saturday 19/1 Punt

The Premier League returns with a vengeance after the international break and has given us some mouth-watering matches on Saturday afternoon.

Shane O’Brien rolled up his sleeves and started shooting at target markets for a grab at the 3pm kick-off.

And as this is a quintuple Acca, we’re covered by Paddy’s Acca-Cracker betting offer, so if you miss a leg, you get your stake back! Oh, and it’s a double bubble here too, as shots on the target market are covered by the Super Sub promotion where your bet continues even if a player is substituted.

Crystal Palace v Leicester – Jamie Vardy will have 1 or more shots on target
Brighton v Ipswich – Sam Szmodics will have 1 or more shots on target
Manchester City vs Brentford – Jack Grealish will have 1 or more shots on target
Liverpool v Nottingham Forest – Virgil Van Dijk will have 1 or more shots on target
Fulham vs West Ham – Jarrod Bowen will have 1 or more shots on target

Crystal Palace v Leicester – Jamie Vardy at have 1 or more shots on target

Neither Crystal Palace nor Leicester have had a particularly encouraging start to the season, picking up just one point each from their first three games.

Both teams are close to the relegation zone at the start of the season and could benefit from a win on Saturday to kick-start their campaigns.

Leicester, who already look in danger of dropping straight back to the Championship, could benefit from a win against a Palace side who have yet to rediscover the form that lit up the Premier League at the end of last season.

The Foxes are likely to cause Palace problems, with Steve Cooper’s side having scored in all three of their league games to date and Palace having conceded in all three of their league games.

Jamie Vardy, who secured Leicester’s only point so far with an equaliser in the opening day draw against Tottenham, has as good a chance as any Leicester player to score on Saturday afternoon. Vardy is averaging just under a shot per game in the league at this early stage and has decent value to put at least one shot on target.

Brighton v Ipswich – Sam Szmodics have 1 or more shots on target

Ipswich are underdogs heading into this tough trip to in-form Brighton. Kieran McKenna’s side are winless after three difficult opening games against Liverpool and Manchester City, but they did manage to pick up their first point of the season with a 1-1 draw against Fulham just before the international break.

That result should have given them confidence ahead of this clash with Brighton, who have taken seven points from their first three games.

Brighton have faced 12 shots on target in their opening four games, however, and are by no means invincible.

Sammie Szmodics, who scored Ipswich’s first goal of the season on the counter-attack against Manchester City, could cause problems for Brighton’s defence. The Irish international finished as the league’s top scorer last season and caused England problems last weekend.

He will be confident ahead of Saturday’s trip to Brighton and should at least try his luck on a couple of occasions.

Manchester City v Brentford – Jack Grealish have 1 or more shots on target

Jack Grealish was excellent in England’s 2-0 win over Ireland and this goalscoring performance could be the boost the Manchester City winger needs. He had a difficult season last year and has spoken openly about his frustration at not being included in England’s Euro squad. Scoring on his return to the England squad could be just what he needs.

He will have the chance to open his club account for the season on Saturday when Brentford travel to the Etihad.

City will dominate almost all of the ball and territory on Saturday afternoon and Brentford’s goal is likely to be beset with shots. At least one of those shots should come from Grealish.

Liverpool v Nottingham Forest – Virgil Van Dijk have 1 or more shots on target

Liverpool, like Manchester City, will dominate almost all the ball and territory when Nottingham Forest visit Anfield on Saturday.

Forest have visited Anfield twice in the Premier League since their promotion in 2022, conceding a combined total of six goals and 40 shots. There is no reason to believe Saturday will be any different.

Liverpool have won 17 corners in their last two home games against Forest and have averaged seven corners per game in their three league games under Arne Slot. Logic dictates that Liverpool will win a large number of corners on Saturday, opening the way for Virgil Van Dijk to venture forward and test Matz Sels in the Forest goal.

Van Dijk has averaged three goals per season since joining Liverpool and is clearly a threat from set pieces. He should have plenty of opportunities to open his account in the 2024/25 season.

Fulham v West Ham – Jarrod Bowen have 1 or more shots on target

It has been a difficult start to the season for West Ham, losing both their home games and winning their only away game so far. Saturday’s trip to Fulham is their chance to kick off the season and Jarrod Bowen represents their best chance of breaking down Fulham’s defence.

Bowen scored in the 2-0 win at Palace earlier this season and scored eight away goals last season. He excels on the counter-attack and is averaging exactly one shot per game so far this season. He is by far the most likely and reliable West Ham player to find the target on Saturday.
