Disturbing footage has emerged of Dominique Pélicot, the “Monster of Avignon”, being caught by police putting on a skirt in a French supermarket.

Dominique Pélicot, 71, is currently on trial after being accused of inviting 72 men he met online to rape his wife Gisèle in their home in the southern village of Mazan. France, over a period of nine years.

According to prosecutors, Pelicot secretly spiked his wife’s dinner with anxiety-reducing medication so she would remain unconscious after falling asleep.

The elderly man is being tried at the Vaulcuse criminal court in Avignon, along with 51 of the alleged rapists, aged between 26 and 73.

French magazine Paris Match has since published disturbing footage of Mr Pélicot being caught by police filming up women’s skirts in a supermarket in south-eastern France in 2020.

The footage, filmed on September 12, 2020, shows Pélicot wearing a face mask as he points the camera up the victims’ skirts in the Leclerc store.

As Pélicot is confronted by a security guard following complaints from “four customers”, a woman is heard exclaiming “no, no, no”.

He is then called “disgusting” and told to “stay put” as authorities are on their way.

Pélicot had initially been fined €100, or £85, as part of a plea bargain, before investigators found a folder on his device labelled “abuse” that contained thousands of incriminating photographs and videos allegedly showing his unconscious wife being raped.

Gisele faced her ex-husband in court for the first time last week, where she said she wanted to “disappear” after discovering the horrific abuse.

“All I wanted to do was disappear,” she told the court. “I thought, ‘I’m going to get in my car with my dog and be done with this.'”

“When I told my sons this, I think they didn’t really understand, they were withdrawn… I think they were in shock. They said: ‘Don’t say such nonsense’.”

“That night the kids rang the bell all the time saying ‘don’t disappear’… they were afraid I would die.”

Called “one of the world’s worst sexual predators,” his stepdaughter also claimed he tried to get her granddaughter to pose nude for him.

Speaking in court last week, Aurore Lemaire, 37, recalled the heartbreaking moment her daughter asked her grandfather to buy her a toy.

“I would be very happy to get it for you if you would pose nude for me,” he allegedly offered.

The trial continues.
